Don’t Attend a Motorhome and Caravan Show Until You Read This!
Confession: I’d rather attend a Motorhome and Caravan show than go to Disneyland.
Yes, it’s official. I’m a camper van and motorhome nerd.
I love visiting shows where I can see the latest in motorhome must-haves, RV accessories and travel gear that puts my brain into overdrive!
At the same time, I know that attending trade fairs and shows isn’t the cheapest thing in the world.
Forget about ticket costs, it’s the travel and stay involved that quickly adds up.
That’s why I’m putting together an Ultimate Guide-style post (I’ll update this as I attend more shows) to help you find the best Motorhome and Caravan shows across Germany, UK and the rest of Europe.
If you have a show you attended and loved, do let me know in the comments so I can include that as well.
Alrighty then, buckle up friends… this is going to be one fun ride!
Why Attend a Motorhome and Caravan Show?
Well, I could just wrap this entire section up by saying that attending an RV show or a camping trade fair will blow your mind, but because I know you want more… here are my top 5 reasons for making the time and investing the energy and money into attending these shows:
1. You discover what’s the best way for YOU to experience #VanLife
Attending a caravan trade fair is like window shopping at a BIG motorhome “mall”. You see a range of vans and motorhomes and can have the whole ‘touch-feel-see’ experience before you fork out thousands of dollars to own one.
Not just that, you can spend time talking to the businesses and understanding what makes their vans better than the others and use that info to filter out options that aren’t perfect for you.
You may also find options that you weren’t aware of, like, RVshare, maybe? Or renting a van from businesses, like Ahoi Bullis.
If you already own an RV or camper van, you can meet businesses who can help you with remodeling it or modifying it to suit your family’s requirements.
Attending a trade fair is, quite simply, the cheapest, easiest and most effective way to scout for the best motorhomes and travel trailers for your personality, needs and budget.
2. You feast on the latest and greatest in camping gear and accessories
Yes, trade fairs and caravan shows are hotbeds for finding the best camping gear and accessories. You’ll find things you didn’t even know you needed!
Sure, you’ll need to grip your credit card tightly so you don’t end up busting your budget but honestly, seeing camp gear in action will actually save you money in the long run. You’ll know what a particular item does, why you need it and how much it costs. Talk about getting your market research all sorted!
3. You meet experts, veterans and those who’ve travelled the road before you… literally.
Motorhome and Caravan shows are fantastic places for you to meet fellow travellers. Most of these shows have sessions by guest experts and you may learn quite a bit too.
It’s a great venue for asking questions, clarifying doubts and generally, hanging out with like-minded people who share the same passion for travel and the outdoors as you.
4. You can introduce sceptical friends and family to the RV life in a fun and non-threatening way
If you have a spouse or partner who isn’t as kicked about spending weeks on the road in an RV, taking them to a trade fair can be a gentle and fun introduction to the outdoor travel life.
They’ll get to see that you aren’t crazy for wanting to head out and enjoy the camp life and that there’s a whole community behind it. The collective enthusiasm and excitement does tend to rub off and can be a great way for them to start exploring the #vanlife.
5. You have loads of FUN!
Finally and most importantly, let’s face it… Motorhome and Caravan trade fairs are a TON of fun. Sure, there’ll be crowds and there will be noise, but the whole vibe and feel of these shows uplifts you and fills you with incredible excitement. I’m not doing the best job of describing this last bit, but I’m sure you know what I mean, right?
Right. Let’s dive into my list of the must-attend Motorhome and Caravan trade fairs if you’re in Germany or the UK.
The Ultimate Motorhome and Caravan Show Guide for European #VanLife Enthusiasts
It’s the world’s biggest trade fair for motorhomes and caravans. Not only will you find the largest selection of caravans and motorhomes, you’ll also find expert guidance, the latest accessories and lots more too.
To give you an idea of how huge this fair is… it gets over 233,700 visitors from 69 countries and covers over 214,000 sq.m of exhibition space.
However, don’t let that scare you off. The fair is fantastically well-organized. They have programmes for beginners and newcomers as well as an entertainment programmes for kids!
Plus, when you buy a ticket to the Caravan Salon, you automatically get a ticket to Tour Natur Dusseldorf too! That’s a show for outdoor destinations and equipment… pretty cool!
I’ve attended this fair TWICE (told you, I nerd out on these!) and LOVED it. The Stuttgart CMT is the world’s largest show for tourism and leisure. You find a good mix of travel destinations and caravanning businesses which makes it perfect for someone who loves to travel.
The Stuttgart CMT is spread over 9 days and exposes you to the best in caravanning, tourism and travel.
They have special themes in dedicated areas so if you’re interested in say, cycling and adventure holidays with hiking, you’ll find everything you need in one area. In addition, they organize seminars, workshops and training sessions on a host of topics for those in the travel and tourism industry.
I can’t wait to go back to CMT next year representing Culinatour!
The UK has some of the best camping trade fairs and caravan shows. The Birmingham Motorhome and Caravan Show is one of my favorites since I used to live in Birmingham and could attend it easily. I hope to go back this autumn especially since my friends from Truma UK will be there too!
The MCS is reasonably priced with tickets for 9.50 pounds and kids go free!
It gets over 400 exhibitors and one of their star attractions is the LIVE Theatre where you can see all the new product launches and more.
Plus, they have expert-led sessions to help you improve your manoeuvring and towing skills.
Another one at Birmingham, the CCM is new to me but since it’s in Birmingham, I hope to attend it sometime soon. It looks super interesting, the tickets are pretty cheap at 8 pounds for adults while kids go free!
From their site, “It’s the UK’s biggest showcase of motorhomes, campervans, caravans, caravan holiday homes and lodges. Plus new season tents of all sizes, trailer tents and folding caravans all under one roof.”
They have a lovely Holiday Park area too complete with climbing wall, bushcraft classes, play area and more. I can see how we can make a real day out of this… Yeah, I can’t wait to check it out. Have you attended it? Do let me know!
Well, here you go… my shortlist of must-attend Motorhome and Caravan trade fairs. I’d love to add more to this list, so don’t forget to share your favourites too!
